The allmusic website (above) gives you a GREAT deal of information on international recording artists; the Calgary news and entertainment weekly FFWD has got to be a good starting block for the local scene. (When it existed).
In this weekly magazine - available both in a free paper edition as well as online ffwdweekly.com, you can find details of where all the live bands are playing and when.
Everything from rock band names to country and blues bands are listed.
Of course, you can also go to the Calgary Folk Music Festival, but you'll have to wait now until next July. Yes, I can see what's going through your mind... rock music at a folk music festival? What is this person thinking?
But you'd be surprised as the Calgary Folk Music Festival doesn't just have folk music. Rather, it caters for most music tastes from rock to blues to folk, and even hip-hop.
