From music lyrics right through to karaoke and poetry, as far as I’ve found Calgary’s got it all covered.
Take for example when Joe wanted to learn to play the guitar. He had just moved to the Calgary area and was having trouble finding a store with a good selection of guitar music for beginners when he stumbled upon Rideau Music.
He found it on a city map. Now Rideau Music has become his first stop when looking for something music related. Especially if he wants to try and learn a new musical instrument, since they cater for all levels of musical aptitude. Including lyrics. Find them at:

Not only do they have a vast range of piano sheet music as well as sheet music for other musical instruments, their range of classical songs and lyrics encompasses such greats as Frank Sinatra and some of the big musical show hits.
They also have the lyrics and sheet music for some of the popular songs today.
Perhaps you have a penchant for singing rather than playing. If you don't mind singing in public and fancy a little bit of fun, why not try your hand at karaoke. A favorite place is a Saturday night at The Flying Emu on 815 8th Avenue SW.
I must admit not everyone can be brave enough to get up and take the limelight, but maybe your friends have and it's a great night out, learning words to songs that you thought you knew as well as embarrassing yourself in the process!

If, though, you are more into poetry than music lyrics because words appeal to you more, why not attend one of Single Onion's events.
Details of their next event such as dates and location can be found on their website, singleonion.com. Their shows don't appeal to everyone as the poetry is modern. But it can be a good night out if you broaden your horizons a bit.
To be honest, whether or not you enjoy it does to some extent depend on who's participating in the show.
You may find it great the first time and no so the next.
For those poetry writers amongst us as well as story writers you'll be pleased to hear that Calgary has something that caters for you.
Frontenac House on 1138 Frontenac Avenue SW, Calgary Alberta T2T 1B6 is always on the lookout for new work from local people. Who knows if you do submit your work and your poetry does get published, it may turn up one day as music lyrics, such as "Puff the Magic Dragon" and "Lily the Pink" did.
Then you'll be famous all over again.
