A long time ago, Canada was the name of part of New France near the Saint Lawrence River and on the northern shores of the Great Lakes.
Then the area split into two UK colonies called Upper Canada and Lower Canada. Aftwards, they got together as Canada. And after Confederation (1867), the the new country was called Canada.
