If you're a fan of Calgary baseball then you'll remember exactly what words Calgary Vipers meant. But for the uninitiated, here's a little background information.
The Calgary Vipers, although they were not classed as a major league baseball team, were one of the teams forming the Northern League. Despite a troubled history surrounding their ownership, their fan base grew in strength for a while and they are gained in popularity within the baseball community.
If you're interested in finding out more about the history of Vipers , then check the Wikipedia summary at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calgary_Vipers. Where's did they play? Right next to McMahon Stadium at 1817 Crowchild Trail NW. Check this map.
Or you could have visited the team's website at calgaryvipers.com.
If you fancy learning how to play baseball rather than just watching it, then perhaps Baseball Alberta is an option for you. Baseball Alberta is a non profit organization that aims to promote amateur baseball within the local community.
Yes there is a membership fee to join. But besides the sport element there are other events that the organization arranges that, as a member, you are eligible to participate in.
Baseball Alberta caters to all ages. I think the youngest member is somewhere around 5 with the oldest being in their 60's. So it's a great way to enjoy sport, socialize and help the community at the same time.

Betting on the outcome of a sports match is always a popular past-time, and in Calgary baseball betting is no exception. There are numerous options of betting on the outcome of a baseball game such as the number of home runs, number of strikeouts, as well as the final score.
Rather than wander down to the local gambling shop, most people are now placing their bets on line and as a result some local shops could close due to lack of demand. The Western Canada Lottery Corporation Sports Select games remain popular, and you can play at any 7-Eleven or
similar store.
All in all, whether you're interested in watching a baseball game in Calgary, learning to play baseball or just placing a bet on the outcome of a baseball game, you're sure to find something for yourself, family and friends.
Even if you don't like this sport when you arrive, you may find yourself falling in love with it during your stay in
Calgary, because of its accessibility.
